# Tutorial: Authenticating with a Passkey
Passkeys represent a revolution in digital security. They allow you to log in completely securely without typing a traditional password.

## 1. What is a Passkey?
A **Passkey** is a cryptographic access key linked to a specific device (computer, smartphone, or USB security key like a YubiKey). It is built on the international **FIDO2 / WebAuthn** standard.
Unlike classic passwords that can be guessed, stolen via phishing, or leaked in database breaches, a Passkey is unique to each service and never leaves your physical device.
### How does it work?
* **Public Key**: Registered on HLI's secure servers.
* **Private Key**: Kept safely within your device's hardware security module, accessible only after locally confirming your identity.

## 2. What is it for?
* **Absolute Security**: Native and absolute protection against phishing. Even if you click on a fake login page, your device will refuse to transmit the cryptographic key because the domain does not match.
* **Ease of Use**: No more complex passwords to memorize. Confirming your identity takes a fraction of a second.
* **Zero Passwords**: Use your device's default unlocking mechanism:
* Biometrics (fingerprint, FaceID/TouchID facial recognition).
* Device PIN code.
* Physical security keys.

## 3. How to use it in HLI?
### Step 1: Registering your Passkey (Login required)
To use this method, you must first link your device to your HLI user account:
1. Log in to HLI using your usual password.
2. Go to your **User Profile** (top right, click on your name, then "My Profile").
3. Navigate to the **Security & Authentication** section.
4. Click on the button **Register a new Passkey**.
5. Follow your operating system or browser prompt to confirm creation (e.g., place your finger on the reader or enter your computer's PIN).
6. Give your key a name to identify it easily (e.g., "Gilles' MacBook Pro" or "iPhone 15").
### Step 2: Logging in from the HLI Login Page
Once the Passkey is configured, logging in becomes extremely simple:
1. On the HLI homepage, stay on the first tab **PASSKEY**.
2. Enter your **Society Code** and **Username (Login)**.
3. Click the **Login** button.
4. Your browser will prompt you to authenticate. Simply validate with your fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN.
5. You are instantly logged into your workspace.
